JC school board treasurer explains communication policy
School leaders in Jefferson City are working on improving transparency and teacher relations after facing some criticism last year.
We talked with Jefferson City School Board Treasurer Steve Bruce during ABC 17 News at 9 a.m.
The school board met Monday night to discuss their open meeting policy.
They eventually gave the issue to a committee, which will meet next month. Their findings will later go to the full school board.
Bruce said they need to improve a few things, but he thinks the board is transparent.
“I believe so, I think that, you know, we have a lot of good policies in place, but can we do better? Absolutely I think we can; I think we have a good board, we have a good makeup, and I think that’s an area we’re going to continue to work hard at,” said Bruce.
Bruce also said the school board has to develop a broader discussion with parents about teachers. His wife works for the district, and he wants to make sure staff members have the best tools for dealing with students’ behavior.
