Man pleads guilty to 1997 Moberly shooting and robbery
The suspect in a Mid-Missouri shooting and robbery pleaded guilty in court Thursday afternoon.
Ollie James III pleaded guilty to an amended charge of 2nd degree robbery and was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the 1997 shooting and robbery a 48-year-old man at Richard’s Steakhouse in Moberly.
James was picked up last year after being on the run since the crime happened.
In court Thursday, the victim, Richard Greiner, testified about the attack in the parking lot of the restaurant.
“It was late in the evening, the restaurant was closed,” Greiner said. “I was getting ready to go home, walked out the back door of the restaurant and I was attacked, stuck a gun to my chest, pulled the trigger and left me for dead.”
Randolph County Prosecutor Mike Fusselman said he worked out a plea agreement with the defense because James cooperated with authorities and gave them helpful information on multiple other cases.
“Ollie James came in and offered up to help clear up a lot of old cases that were serious crimes back in ’97 ’98 and given the level of what we could corroborate which was the details were good and they were consistent in fact by the time you compared the information we received from the other witnesses,” Fusselman said.
