Gov. Nixon appoints Boone Co. treasurer as new state auditor

Gov. Nixon Tuesday appointed Boone County Treasurer Nicole Galloway as the new state auditor.

John Watson took over as interim state auditor February 27 after the death of Tom Schweich.

Tuesday’s announcement was made in the governor’s office at the state Capitol at 2:00 p.m.

Watson served as the senior advisor to the governor before he was appointed as interim auditor.

Clayton police responded to a gunshot wound around 9:48 a.m. February 26. Officers found Schweich in his home with a single gunshot wound. He was later pronounced dead at nearby Barnes Jewish Hospital.

Schweich was just elected to another four-year term back in November. He joined the Republican race for governor a month before his death.

Officials have also wrapped up their investigation. They are announcing their final conclusions into Schweich’s death Tuesday afternoon.
