Victoria’s Bridal owner on trial Monday

The former owner of a popular Jefferson City bridal shop heads to trial Monday. Ann Metternich was charged with theft in October of 2011. Prosecutors tell ABC 17 the reason it has taken so long to get a trial is because of all of the paperwork that’s gone into the case.

Monday afternoon at 1:30 Metternich will be in court for a bench trial, as she waived a jury trial.

Anderson’s Formal Wear claims Metternich stole thousands of dollars worth of tuxedos from them. Jefferson City Police did an undercover sting operation on Metternich after the allegations from Anderson’s.

During the same time, the Department of Revenue filed tax liens for nearly $50,000 against Metternich. She closed her Victoria’s Bridal store in October and has moved to Iowa.

According to Missouri law, even if someone leaves the state they are still required to pay the taxes owed to Missouri.

Sources tell ABC 17 it is scheduled to be a two-day trial.
