Versailles man pleads guilty to selling $750,000 worth of synthetic pot
A Versailles man pleaded guilty in federal court Thursday to selling $750,000 worth of synthetic pot at his store in Laurie.
On Monday, two others pleaded guilty in the same case.
49-year-old Scott Hanson pleaded guilty to selling the drugs at Vedas, located at 101 N. Main St. in Laurie.
Hanson and other conspirators sold the drugs that were shipped in from China
and packaged them with false labels.
A Morgan County Sheriff’s deputy went undercover and walked into Vedas in June 2012, and asked Hanson for something that would not give him a positive drug test result.
Hanson sold the deputy a package of “Mr. Happy,” a form of synthetic marijuana that was mislabeled and did not contain directions for use.
Hanson bought about $375,000 of synthetic marijuana, and then sold them at his business for about $750,000.
Hanson admitted he sold the drugs in kilogram quantities, and faces up to 5 years in prison, with a fine up to $250,000.
