Three indicted in Jefferson City murder

Three people have been indicted in a February murder in Jefferson City.

Robert Burks, Charles Thompson, and Vincent Smith all were charged in the February 15 death of Johnny Evans.

Evans was shot when the three allegedly broke into his house at 1115 E. High St. and attempted to rob him.

According to a Cole Co. indictment, Smith pointed a .380 caliber handgun at Evans, and went through his belongings in the living room and shot him shortly after.

Smith and Thompson are charged with 2nd degree murder, 1st degree burglary, 1st degree attempted robbery, and armed criminal action.

Burks is charged with 2nd degree murder, 1st degree burglary, and 1st degree attempted robbery.

Smith and Thompson are being held on $500,000, and Burks is out of jail on $25,000 bond.
