Robber steals rent money at gunpoint during home invasion

A man came into a house near 6 a.m. Sunday after knocking, and robbed the people inside at gunpoint.

Two victims inside the house on the 500 block of Sexton Road, near the intersection of Cook Avenue, tell ABC 17 News the robber, his age described as in his 20s, came in when one of them opened the door. The suspect, once inside, pointed a gun at the people in the living room and demanded money. One victim said he gave the robber next month’s rent money, and the man fled the house through the back door.

Columbia police say they have not identified a suspect yet, but did talk to some witnesses in the neighborhood. The department says the robber did not physically injure anybody in the process.

Police will monitor Sexton Road closer, as part of its burglary patrol starting this weekend.
