Road crews prepare for snow Wednesday night

Road crews across Mid-Missouri are prepared for winter weather on the way Wednesday night.

Columbia officials will have a full crew ready to work in less than two hours.

Jefferson City will also send in a full crew of 21 employees once the snow starts falling.

Cole County will do the same with 26 employees coming in to help treat and clear roads.

MoDOT will have 19 workers in Boone County and 16 in Cole County overnight, and will start monitoring roads by 7:30 p.m.

“We expect to start with a full crew overnight, so that will be about 29, 30 pieces of equipment, again on first and second priority roads. We’ve got crews out there overnight and we’re hoping that the first and second priority roads will be in good shape for tomorrow morning’s commute,” said Steve Sapp with Columbia Public Works.

MoDOT said its plows will be out when the snow starts to fall, but they could also be pre-treating problem areas like hills and bridges.
