Woman safe after driving off road onto icy pond

A woman is safe Tuesday afternoon after her car ended up on an icy pond.

The accident happened just before 10:30 Tuesday morning near Highway 163 and Bennett Drive in Boone County.

The woman was driving westbound on Highway 163 and lost control of the car before driving onto the pond for about 15-20 feet.

She tried to back off of the pond, but ended up coming back to shore when emergency crews arrived.

Investigators said the woman was not texting and driving at the time, and that her phone was actually not working at the time of the crash.

She was unable to call first responders, but a passerby saw her and was able to call 911.

When crews arrived, they got her safely to shore, and a tow truck was able to get the car off the ice.

Officials said if you find yourself in a similar situation, do not try to drive off the ice. Get out of your car as soon as possible.
