Scammers claim Jefferson City residents have won millions

Scammers are now calling Jefferson City residents saying they’ve won millions of dollars.

Several reports have come in about this scam to the Jefferson City Police Department.

Citizens said they are being told they’ve won five million dollars, but have to send in a certain amount of money before they can claim their money.

Police said they have heard different amounts of money they are being instructed to send in. Anywhere from one hundred to ten thousand dollars is what police have said.

Police said they have also heard about similar incidents as this recently and think it’s a new type of scam scammers are trying.

Authorities remind consumers not to send in any money to the people contacting them regarding winning from from lotteries or sweepstakes.

If someone is contacted regarding this scam they need to contact their local Better Business Bureau.
