Columbia crews working to clear neighborhoods for Tuesday commute

Earlier on Monday afternoon, several cars were sliding around on the road in Columbia. We were in contact with Columbia Public Works Monday afternoon.

A full crew will be out on the roads Monday and into Tuesday, meaning anywhere from 27 to 30 trucks will be out and they’ll have trucks out all night on priority routes as some of this may re-freeze as temperatures drop.

First and second priority routes are mostly passable, with the bulk of crews in residential areas to make those streets driveable.

The city was cracking down on drivers who didn’t move their cars overnight for road crews.

The majority of streets around town have been cleared even though some of them remain snow packed and slick.

Public Works officials told ABC 17 News crews were finishing up priority streets and will move into residential areas Monday afternoon.

There is still a parking ban in effect for priority streets.

Public Works has issued 74 citations and have had to tow 12 cars. They said it’s important to keep park cars off all streets so they can be cleared effectively.

Public Works crews are hoping to clear most areas by Tuesday morning’s commute, and encourage people to stay home if they don’t have to be on the streets.
