Business owners: some roads cleared late in Jefferson City
Allen Walz, the owner of Culver’s in Jefferson City, told ABC 17 News it is always a headache trying to get someone to plow the road in front of his restaurant on Jefferson Street.
According to Walz, MoDOT claims the city should clear the street, but the city says it belongs to MoDOT.
As of 3:00 this afternoon, Jefferson Street was still not cleared. Walz said the hill is dangerous for his customers. He just wants the street plowed without him having to call road crews to clear it. He said it an issue every time it snows, and the problem has lasted for about five years.
“We’re Jeff City residents, we pay our taxes in Jeff City. We just want somebody to take care of us,” said Walz.
Allen Walz has owned Culver’s for five years.
“The street is very treacherous. We’re on a steep hill and customers have trouble coming down the hill,” said Walz.
Not only do people have trouble coming down the hill, but while ABC 17 was at Culver’s today, crews saw two different people almost not make it up and down the hill on Jefferson Street.
Bubba Lane connects to Jefferson Street.
“They plow Bubba Lane and I think when they come up the hill they lift their plow up,” said Walz.
He said last year someone was coming down Jefferson Street, hit the sign in the yard and took off. He said he had to fix that with money out of his pocket.
ABC 17 News found out MODOT is in charge of clearing Jefferson Street.
The road was plowed a little before 4 p.m. Monday.
