Holiday counting period in from police

Highway Patrol says there were 36 car crashes in Troop F over the Christmas counting period.

This was a 4 day counting period, which is longer than most.

Sargent Paul Reinsch with the Highway Patrol said it’s hard to compare year to year when each counting period is different.

Of the crashes, 15 was injured and there were 2 deaths.

One man was from Columbia and the other was from Jefferson City.

Reinsch said the weather will play a factor in how many crashes there are during a counting period.

He said this year they were lucky the weather wasn’t severe.

Reinsch said they will start a new counting period on New Year’s Eve and it will go through the weekend.

He recommends for anyone planning on drinking to get a sober ride lined up before heading out the door.
