Osage Co. operating poorly according to state audit

Osage County is performing poorly according to an audit by State Auditor Tom Schweich.

In August, a road and bridge foreman resigned from his job after allegedly making unquestionable purchases and misusing county assets.

The county gave that information to the prosecutor, but no charges were filed as of the end of last month.

Despite previous audits dating back to 1989, a recent legal settlement with a former employee, and the implementation of a standard county-wide time sheet, county payroll records, policies, and procedures still need major improvements.

The county clerk doesn’t maintain central records of vacation, sick leave, and comp time, or monitor for compliance with county policies or the Fair Labor Standards Act.
