Petition for more East Campus lighting gains traction
A petition urging the City of Columbia to install more street lighting on East Campus is getting quite a bit of attention and support.
We first brought you the story about the record number of rapes in Columbia, many concentrated in the East Campus neighborhood. We learned the lack of lighting was a big concern for many students living there. On Wednesday, ABC 17’s Marissa Hollowed sat down with Sarah Sprick, a concerned college student.
Sprick created a petition on change.org asking the city to install more street lighting.
“I think it’s becoming a really big issue. I don’t think they can ignore it anymore,” said Sprick.
Right now, the goal of 1,000 signature has been reached. Many are signing stating safety concerns as the biggest reason. Sprick has also been contacted by an LED lighting company and the Missouri Students Association asking to team up with her efforts.
