Jefferson City man arrested for child abuse

A Jefferson City man was arrested Wednesday after police got a call from the Cole County Children’s Division claiming a child was physically abused.

A 5-year-old girl said her father kicked her in the face while she was lying on the kitchen floor, then sent her to her room with an ice pack.

The girl’s sister corroborated her story, and police noticed a wound on the girl’s face. The wound did not need medical attention.

38-year-old Curtis Newell is being held in the Cole County Jail pending charges.
