Police investigating shots fired, school temporarily locked down

Columbia Police are investigating shots fired in the 1000 block of Claudell Lane Tuesday morning.

Witnesses told police they said a black man walking near the area prior to a single shot being fired.

At the same time, a blue vehicle drove by the area multiple times.

Witnesses said the driver of the vehicle was a black man who had a handgun. They said after the shot was fired, the man walking on the street began to run through an apartment complex and out of sight before police arrived.

Officers didn’t find any shell casings at the scene. There were also no reports of injuries or property damage. Officers are still looking for the person on foot, and the driver of the vehicle.

Schools in the area were notified. Our Lady of Lourdes confirmed to ABC 17 News they had a modified lockdown placed around 11:30 and lifted after lunch. Students were allowed to move around inside the building, but no one was allowed in or out.
