Highway 50 bridge partially closed due to accident
The eastbound lane will be closed on part of Highway 50 in Cole County due to an accident at the bridge Tuesday.
A truck hauling a loader hit the Hwy. 50 bridge over Big Horn Drive west of Jefferson City, damaging the bridge’s concrete girders.
The eastbound passing lane in this area will be closed for at least two months while MoDOT works to fix the bridge.
MoDOT officials said the truck was carrying a load that was too tall to make it underneath the bridge.
Officials also said emergency repairs like this can put a strain on the department’s already limited budget. They said they’ll be working with the responsible party to seek damages to help pay for the repairs.
Damage is estimated between $150,000 to $200,000.
