Friends mourn for MU student at candlelight vigil
Hundreds of students packed the lawn of the Sigma Pi fraternity house to mourn the loss of their classmate and friend, Chris Nicklow.
Nicklow was a sophomore at the University studying food sciences.
He died Sunday night of natural causes at a friend’s house on East Campus.
Fraternity Chapter Director Scott Evans said he had an irregular heart.
At the vigil, students sang and shared their favorite memories of Nicklow, including how he wasn’t the type to sit indoors and play video games but instead loved being outside, especially at Devil’s Icebox.
Another student said he thought Nicklow was making the weather beautiful over the last few days so his friends would be happier.
His fraternity brothers and friends are hoping to keep his memory alive.
“We talked about getting together with the men of Ag Rho; they’ve recently experienced the same deal as us and we’re looking at maybe setting up a scholarship in maybe Cale and Chris’ name,” Evans said.
Cale Boedeker was a student at MU who recently passed away, possibly because of diabetes, according to his friend.
