Man accused of killing infant appears in court

A Rolla man accused of killing a 11-month-old baby in January 2013 appeared in Phelps County Court Wednesday.

A grand jury indicted Brent Black with child abuse and second degree murder of Sapphire Gibbs in October of last year.

The baby was taken to the hospital and eventually transferred to a children’s hospital in St. Louis before she died a few days later.

The trial for Black is scheduled to begin on November 17.
