Woman walking on Columbia street killed by car

A Columbia woman is dead after being hit while walking along Rangeline. Police say a 17-year-old driver veered off the road to avoid a collision with a car headed the wrong way. She lost control and ran off the road.

Before running off the road, the car also hit two pedestrians who were walking along the east shoulder of Rangeline near the Waffle House.

Both were taken to University Hospital. Police say Dianna Barney, 44, was pronounced dead at the hospital. The other person, Michael Johnson, 52, was taken to University Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Investigators say speed, impairment and or inattention are not believed to be a factor for the 17-year-old driver. They are still looking for the driver of the car headed the wrong way.
