Local police: man was high and going the wrong way
A man faces several charges after Mid-Missouri police say he took them on a car chase while he was high and going the wrong way.
William Smith was first spotted just before 1 a.m. Saturday heading east on Highway 54 westbound in Osage Beach near Big Surf.
Ten minutes later, a similar Dodge Stratus was seen driving on the golf course at Tan Tar A. It was also driving on the wrong side of the road without headlights.
A different officer saw the same car exit the highway, crossing five lanes of traffic. Afterwards, the car reached more than 100 miles an hour. It took the Bagnell Boulevard exit, turned around outside a local strip club called the Gentleman’s Quarters, almost hitting a police car from Lake Ozark trying to block its path.
After more than 10 miles, Smith was caught after his car hit a median and blew a tire near the Menards in Lake Ozark.
Smith was taken into custody accused of driving while under the influence of drugs, careless and imprudent driving, speeding, having meth and drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest and failure to display head lights. A judge set his bond at $15,000 or $1,000 cash-only.
