Severe storms leave damage over Mid-Missouri

Severe thunderstorms plowed through Mid-Missouri Wednesday afternoon, leaving damage in the western part of the viewing area, in Cooper, Morgan, and Pettis counties.

Trees and power lines were downed near the Cooper and Morgan county line just before 3:30 p.m., according to Cooper County Emergency Manager Tom White.

White told ABC 17 News the Otterville Fire Chief said a rain-wrapped tornado was sighted. No one was injured in Cooper County.

Power outages were also reported through western Mid-Missouri. As of 5:00 p.m., 299 were without power in Cooper County, 351 in Pettis, and 207 in Morgan County.

Trees were downed in these areas, and water was covering the road as heavy rain fell with the storms.

A barn was destroyed north of Tipton in Moniteau County, along with several trees downed in the area.

Pettis County Sheriff Kevin Bond said there was rotation over Sedalia with numerous power outages. Storm spotters reported a 60 MPH wind gust at Sedalia High School.

Further east, 62 MPH winds were reported in Jefferson City. ABC 17’s Lucas Geisler reported trees down in Mokane in Callaway County.
