Child with lighter causes Columbia duplex fire
Officials believe a juvenile playing with a lighter started a Monday afternoon fire inside a Columbia duplex off Greensboro Drive.
Assistant Fire Marshal Tim Bach determined the blaze started in a first-floor bedroom in the back of the home.
Crews arrived on the scene just before 3:30 p.m. to find smoke coming from a two-story duplex. The fire was contained to the bedroom and controlled within 12 minutes.
People inside the home made it out safely, and no one was injured. Fire investigators said the blaze caused $45,000 in damage.
