Ferguson protesters want police officer identified

After two nights of clashes between police and the community, people continued to protest in Ferguson Tuesday.

ABC 17 was there when officers from dozens of law enforcement agencies in the St. Louis area fired tear gas and wooden pellets at protesters in Ferguson.

Community members continued to occupy the streets for the death of 18-year-old Michael Brown, shot by a police officer Saturday afternoon.

While different groups have had different demands throughout the protests this week, members of the Ferguson community have one narrow goal in mind.

Protesters told ABC 17 News they want the police officer responsible for shooting Brown to be identified.

Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson said he was going to identify that officer in the afternoon, but Tuesday morning he cancelled the news conference and chose not to reveal the officer’s name. He said he needed to make sure the officer had proper security.

One protester said he wants a better line of communication between the police and the Ferguson community.

The Reverend Al Sharpton arrived to town Tuesday afternoon and will hold a peaceful protest Tuesday night.
