Proposition EPIC asking for a 1/8 cent sales tax increase for Boone County.

Proposition EPIC is supposed to prop up recreational opportunities on the nearly one hundred and thirty acre Boone County Fairgrounds.

However, it will require a 1/8 cent sales tax increase for Boone County voters.

Organizers of the proposition said they created it with three goals in mind.

They said it will improve run down recreational areas that already exist.

Preserving Boone County’s heritage is also a goal and that means maintaining fairgrounds at the Central Missouri Event Center.

They also think passing Proposition EPIC will keep the Show-Me-State Games in Boone County.

Finally, supporters like Governor Roger Wilson said it will promote economic development.

“You never know when federal money is going to appear of disappear. You never know when state money will appear or disappear. So, I think being ready when those times ripe, really puts us a step ahead of other communities,” said Wilson.

If EPIC passes in August, it will go into effect January 1, 2015.

There is also a sunset of six years on the proposition.
