Columbia residents still without power
Wednesday, Columbia city manager declared an emergency after Monday’s night storm causing hundreds in Columbia to still be without power.
“It’s interesting, you don’t realize how dependent you are on electricity till you don’t have it,” said Julie Borders, a Columbia Water and Light customer living without power for two days.
Tonight more than 1,400 customers in Columbia are left in the dark.
Off Melody Lane in south Columbia, a small pocket of houses still don’t have power.
“I had ice cream soup for lunch yesterday, that was lunch,” Borders’ said.
In the middle of the afternoon, “see how dark it is in here,” Borders’ house is nearly pitch dark.
“Everything that I can think of, it has touched of every aspect. I really didn’t think about how much until this event, for as long as this has lasted about how much of my life this has impacted,” said Borders.
Since the storm on Monday, Borders has had to throw away all the food in her fridge and spent the night with family.
“It is a fear of mine, going on day after day, not knowing when the power will come back on.”
