Carter Arey is Mizzou and US men’s wheelchair basketball player

Mizzou and US men’s wheelchair basketball player Carter Arey is preparing for the World Cup in South Korea next month.

Arey is one of 12 players on the US wheelchair team, joined by fellow Mizzou Tiger John Gilbert.

The athletes use a different wheelchair for basketball then others off the court, allowing them to move quicker in the game.

“The main difference between an everyday wheelchair and a sport wheelchair is the camibur of the wheels, just at a tilt and the weight is much different I mean these things are maybe 20 pounds and we can get up to about 20-25 miles per hour.

I mean we can move in these things. They aren’t made for going to your car and go to Walmart. These are made for going fast and playing basketball,” Arey said.
