Emergency crews recover Columbia teen from Missouri River

On Friday, the Boone County Sheriff’s Department confirmed, Eric Alvarado, is the 17-year-old who drowned near Cooper’s landing.

Alvarado’s body was found 30 feet off the shore.

He was swimming Thursday with two other friends when he started calling for help.

His friends swam towards him, but he was under the water and were not able to reach him.

Missouri State Highway Patrol’s water division searched until 11 Thursday night.

The search was called off at that time because of dangerous river conditions.

They resumed their search Friday morning at 7:30.

His body was found at 10:30.

Boone Co. emergency crews were first on the scene putting multiple search boats into the water.

A teen died after disappearing where Perche Creek meets the Missouri River in July 2012.

That is the same place Alvarado drowned.
