Rock Bridge, Mexico baseball moving on to sectionals
The rock bridge bruins have the district title, but now they want more. Sectionals are next for the Bruins to take on and that means the competition gets tougher but the young bruins squad is battle tested.
Their signature wins of the season came in district play, after coming back from an eight run deficit to beat Helias and a 5-0 shutout of Jefferson City.
The team says having a focus in sectionals will be key for the team.
“We’ve met our goal. But now, moving forward, we’re going to talk about is not to be satisfied. So now that we get to reach our goal, now we get to dream. Our dream has always been a state championship. But we can’t dream unless we reach out goal,” said Rock Bridge head coach Justin Towe.
“Oh it’s huge–especially with how young our team is. We are a very talented team. If we can bounce back from getting punched in the mouth, we can be a really tough team to beat,” added Logan Twehous, Bruin junior pitcher.
The same night, the Mexico Bulldogs walked away with a district title of their own over Boonville in a 7-2 victory thanks to three home runs.
Now Mexico will host St. Charles West in hopes of making a run in the class four bracket. The bulldogs feel confident they have the right team to make that happen.
“We are feeling pretty good, we are district champions and Cody did a great job on the mound. Now we have to keep up the defense and offense and just keep pushing it, pushing it,” D’Milo Nunnelly, Bulldog outfield, said.
