Higbee teacher could face assault charges

A Higbee elementary school teacher could be facing charges after she was arrested this week for assault.

ABC 17 News learned through the school’s website and parents that 40-year-old Deborah Walker is a 4th grade teacher.

Sources told ABC 17 News Walker was arrested after ramming her car into the car of a 20-year-old Higbee woman.

These sources said Walker’s husband was in the 20-year-old’s car at the time.

Walker bonded out of jail and was back teaching Thursday.

The school would not confirm Walker was arrested, but they did meet in a special closed session last night about an “urgent personnel matter.”

After the meeting, school officials said, “this is a confidential personnel matter that is not subject to public record disclosure. By law we cannot say anything, but if it becomes a matter we can discuss, we’ll let you know.”

ABC 17 talked to one of Walker’s students who said she told the students she didn’t know if she’d be back because “her life is complicated.”

“She told us she was sorry and she might not be back tomorrow but she wishes she could and she might not be back next year,” said the student.

This would not be Walker’s first run-in with the law.

Walker was involved in a domestic dispute with her husband on school grounds in October that put the school on lockdown.

Her husband, Kelly Walker, was charged with domestic assault for that incident.
