Columbia man pleads guilty to attacking man with golf club
A Columbia man who turned himself in to police in early September of last year for attacking his neighbor pleaded guilty in Boone County Court Monday.
40-year-old Quincy Avant allegedly hit his neighbor in the head with a golf club while the victim was playing basketball on September 1, 2013 in the 2900 block of Lawnridge Court.
The strike caused the victim to bleed from the head and eventually put him into a coma.
Avant was charged with first degree assault and armed criminal action, and pleaded guilty to those charges Monday.
Avant was sentenced to 13 years in prison, and must serve at least 85% of that beforehe’s eligible for parole, meaning he’ll have to serve at least 11 years of the sentence.
