Students evacuated for smoke at Columbia school
The Columbia Fire Department was called to Jefferson Middle School Monday afternoon for reports of smoke in two classrooms.
Students and staff were evacuated from the building around 1:00 p.m.
Fire crews arrived and found no visible signs of smoke or fire.
Crews told ABC 17 News construction work was being done in the lower partof the building, and the smoke was coming from welding work.
Students and faculty were eventually allowed back inside the school shortly after investigation by the Fire Department.
Parents told ABC 17 this isn’t the first time this has happened, and that they’re concerned about the construction cutting into class time.
