Flags ordered at half-staff for “Walkin’ Joe”

Governor Nixon has ordered all flags to be flown at half staff until former GovernorJoseph Teasdale is laid to rest.

Teasdale passed away Thursday.

He was elected as Missouri Governor in 1976 at age 40. Prior to that appointment, he was an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Kansas City. At 30 years old, he was the youngest prosecuting attorney in the history of Jackson County, Missouri.

Most remember him for walking across the entire state to personally meet with Missourians during his 1976 campaign.

He is especially known for his support of Missouri seniors, as he created the Division of Aging and pushed for passage of the Nursing Home Reform Act, and he supported the removal of the state sales tax on prescription drugs.
