Columbia police respond to kidnapping call

The Columbia Police Department had one person in custody Tuesday afternoon for analleged kidnapping, but that man has since been released.

Officers responded to a kidnapping call shortly before 9 a.m.

The female caller told dispatchers her female friend was taken by a man they knewfrom the Columbia Mall and was headed east on I-70.

The caller said she was following them until the woman got away somewhere near the interstate and got int the caller’s vehicle.

The man was taken into custody by police near mile marker 142 of I-70.

The caller and friend did not meet with police in person and would only talk to officers over the phone.

They did not give police enough information to make an arrest, so the man was released.
