Power outages over across Columbia

More than 1,000 Columbia Water and Light customers experienced off-and-on power in central Columbia Saturday afternoon.

Connie Kacprowicz with Columbia Water and Light told ABC 17 News one of two Saturday outages had been restored as of 4:35 p.m. According to the city’s outage map, the other outage ended sometime around 10 p.m.

The largest affected nearly 1,000 customers along Providence and Broadway, Kacprowicz said. The cause of that outage was unknown, but some customers reported power being restored only to have it drop out again. It had been restored by 4:35 p.m.

Another outage, affecting about 100 customers, was reported near Parker and Holly, just north of Interstate 70. Water and Light crews were working to fix a downed pole that caught fire, caused that outage.

The outages both hit around 3 p.m. Saturday, as thousands were leaving Mizzou Arena. Some traffic signals were without power during the post-game traffic rush.
