Paddy Malones celebrates 150th anniversary

A classic Jefferson City watering hole celebrated 150 years of serving Capital City residents and state lawmakers alike Saturday.

The building that houses Paddy Malones, on West Main Street near the Missouri River Bridge, has been a drinking destination since 1836, according to its owners.

But the building has served as a number of different business, some more sordid than others.

“A farm implement business, a consignment shop and businesses of that nature,” said owner Allen Tatman. “In the late 1800’s, there were some women who worked here, let’s say in the pleasure business.”

Early occupants includes offices for real estate and other businesses, but anyone alive today remembers it at either Pat’s Place or Paddy Malones.

“It’s been a venerable and established tavern for a long time in this town,” Tatman added. “I know a lot of people have roots here going way back.”

Paddy Malones was celebrating with drink and food special most of the day Saturday.
