Drug deal turns into armed robbery

Police are an investigating an armed robbery they say started as a drug deal.

Around 3 a.m. Sunday, officers were called to the parking lot of the Casey’s Convenience Store at 102 Eastland Drive.

The 18-year-old victim told police between 12:30 and 1 a.m., he was sitting in his car in the Casey’s parking lot when another man entered the passenger side of the car. The man talked to the victim about his cell phone before pointing the gun at the victim and demanding the phone.

After an initial investigation, the victim admitted to officers that he had arranged to meet the man at Casey’s to buy marijuana from him. The victim said he was robbed of his cell phone at gunpoint, but refused to cooperate further in the investigation.
