Columbia man not guilty of tampering with his monitoring device

A Columbia man tied to several shootings over the past few years was found not guilty of tampering with his monitoring device.

Malcolm Redmon was convicted in 2012 for his involvement in a fight that led to a shooting outside of the old Boone Tavern in downtown Columbia.

He was sentenced to one year in jail, but the judge gave him a six-month home detention sentence provided he wear and ankle monitoring system.

Redmon was on trial for cutting the ankle bracelet off.

During the trial, both the prosecution and defense acknowledged Redmon cut the bracelet. However, Redmon’s attorney says his client’s home detention was revoked prior to removing the monitoring device.

The prosecution said that reasoning is absurd. She said Redmon was trying to do everything in his power not to go back to jail.

After about an hour of deliberations, the jury found Redmon not guilty.
