Callaway County home considered total loss after fire

One woman escaped unharmed from a large house fire in Callaway County Tuesday night.

South Callaway and New Bloomfield fire crews responded to a house fire in the 5500 block of State Highway PP around 8:30 p.m.

An ABC 17 News crew at the scene reported large flames shooting from what remained of the house. As the flames died down, the only part of the house that was left was the basement.

Fire investigators said the house was a total loss, first responders were not even able to assess the size of the home when they arrived because of the severity of the blaze.

20 firefighters continued to work to contain the fire until nearly 10 p.m. Tuesday.

The woman inside was alone at the time and made the 911 call.

A cause is under investigation, but fire crews said it did not appear suspicious.
