Columbia woman injured while putting out house fire

A woman suffered significant burn injuries putting out a house fire, according to firefighters.

Around 5:13 p.m. Monday, Columbia firefighters responded to a house fire in the Colonial Village Trailer Court on Rangeline Street.

Firefighters say the woman extinguished the flames, but suffered burn injuries. She was transported to University Hospital for treatment. Her current condition is not known.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. An assistant fire marshal with the Columbia Fire Department says the fire caused $2,500 in damage.

Firefighters are urging residents to leave a house on fire and call 911 instead of attempting to extinguish the flames on their own.
