Boone Electric Cooperative to switch on new substation
Boone Electric Cooperative will flip the switch on a new electric substation Tuesday.
The substation, located on Highway 124 near Harrisburg, will serve approximately 1,000 customers. The coop says the substation has the capacity to serve many more customers in the future.
“The substation is closer to load concentration, meaning shorter distances for the electricity to travel to reach members,” said Andrew Petri of Boone Electric Cooperative. “This means a more efficient system, with less loss of energy along the power lines, plus shorter outage times.”
The coop now has 14 substations serving their customers.
