32 and OH! Mizzou volleyball clinches SEC title
Wayne Kreklow thought his players may have been too loose this week. Amid the extra media attention, the chance to clinch an NCAA tournament berth, and raise the school’s first ever SEC trophy, the Tigers could easily be distracted. But No. 4 Missouri, as its done all year, ignored the noise and beat Mississippi State to earn an SEC title on Friday.
Mizzou was in control the entire game, winning the match 25-19, 25-16, 25-17. Molly Kreklow led the way with 39 assists, as eight different Tigers had kills on Friday. Lisa Henning had a team-high 11 kills, including the championship clinching point.
The SEC title also means the Tigers clinched their 11th NCAA tournament berth in the Kreklow era. With the victory, this is the 300th win for Wayne and Susan Kreklow at Mizzou.
The Tigers celebrated on the court, in front a record crowd (7,879) for a Mizzou volleyball match. The Hearnes Center staff pulled out the stage, and as Wayne Kreklow was handed the SEC championship trophy, confetti fell on the stage and the team posed for pictures with their new hardware.
Mizzou travels to No. 16 Kentucky on Sunday before hosting Arkansas next week to close out the regular season.
