Phone scam targeting Central Bank customers in Mid-Missouri

A phone scam is targeting Central Bank customers in central Missouri.

The bank says people across Mid-Missouri have received automated phone calls telling the customer that their debit or credit card has been locked or frozen. The caller then asks the customer to enter in their card information.

Central Bank says the phone calls are fraudulent and part of a scam.

Bank officials say they believe the scam may be originating from overseas because victims report that is where charges are being made to their cards.

The bank says if you get a call, hang up. However, if you did respond to the automated message, contact your bank or credit card immediately.

Jefferson City police told ABC 17 News they are aware of the scam and are asking victims to forward information to the Missouri Attorney General’s office.
