Clinic employee gains access to Boone Hospital Center patient records

An employee at a medical practice gained access to dozens of Boone Hospital Center patient records.

According to the Boone Hospital Center, a patient called Sept. 16 to report that his private records had been “inappropriately accessed.”

Hospital officials investigated and determined a staff member at Nephrology & Hypertension Associates, LLP accessed 126 patient records.

Those records contained patients’ dates of birth, social security numbers, addresses and full names.

The records also included the patients’ medical record numbers and treatment-related records, including hospital care, diagnoses and prescribed treatment.

BHC says after a thorough investigation, all affected patients were notified about the breach of security. Those patients will receive a free one-year enrollment in a credit monitoring service.
