Jefferson City police respond to false active shooter report

Jefferson City police responded to an incident Thursday afternoon that turned out to be a false active shooter report.

Around 3 p.m., officers received a call about a possible active shooter at Berlin-Wheeler, a receivables management business, on West McCarty Street.

Police say the caller reported he had received a text indicating a shooting was in progress.

Jefferson City police established a perimeter around the area and the SWAT team entered the business out of an abundance of caution.

Officers say all employees were accounted for and there was no shooting, nor any incident involving violence.

Capt. Doug Shoemaker says the caller misinterpreted the information, which was relayed to the 911 Communications Center.

No further investigation is planned.
