Chamois power plant closes
Employees at the power plant in Chamois left their jobs for the final time Monday.
Central Electric Cooperative announced it would close the plant last winter.
$2.2 million in direct payroll will be taken out of the local economy.
The school district in Chamois could stand to lose $58,000.
CEO Donald Shaw told ABC 17 News rising transportation costs, a new $3 million railroad spur and $14 million in required upgrades to meet environmental regulations were just to costly to keep the facility open.
