Police arrest alleged Douglass Park shooter

Law enforcement in Mid-Missouri have made an arrest in last week’s shooting at Douglass Park in Columbia.

Moberly police Cmdr. Kenne Neese said a wanted suspect out of Columbia for a felony offense was taken into custody Thursday in the 400 block of W. Reed Street.

Columbia Police Department Ofc. Latisha Stroer confirmed 30-year-old Walter Lee Ricketts, Jr. was arrested by Moberly and Columbia police, as well as the U.S. Marshal’s Service.

Authorities say Ricketts was the triggerman for a shooting Aug. 21 in Douglass Park. No one was injured in the incident.

Ricketts was arrested on charges of armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon.

He is being held in the Boone County Jail on a $200,000 cash-only bond.

According to online court documents, charges were filed against Ricketts on Aug. 22, the day after the shooting. Records state he is facing charges of first-degree assault and armed criminal action.

The court records say Ricketts cannot set foot on the premises of Douglass Park.

Court documents also show that after reviewing the surveillance video it appears as if there was more than one shooter.
