Cole County general revenue income tax lowered
The Cole County Commission voted Wednesday to lower the general revenue income tax rate.
The tax dropped a penny, almost 10 percent of the total tax. The tax will now be 10 cents instead of 11 cents.
“Every cent that we can give back to the taxpayers, particular in this economy, is valuable,” Cole County Commissioner Marc Ellinger said.
County leaders say it has been lowered the past six years, originally starting at 37 cents.
This tax break was made possible by a surplus in the general revenue.
Ellinger said even with the tax break, there will likely be a surplus next year. If that happens, commissioners could make another tax cut.
