Missouri Department of Transportation plans changes to dangerous intersection

The Missouri Department of Transportation has proposed a project to improve the intersection atHighway 54 and Callaway County Route FF/Old Highway 40.

This area is known for its high number of crashes and has heavy traffic from North Callaway High School.

A new roadway will be constructed to the east of Highway 54 that connects County Road 148 to Old Highway 40. The existing connection of County Road 148 to Highway 54 will be removed.

An acceleration lane will also be constructed just north of the existing Highway 54 and County Road 48 connection to allow eastbound traffic onto Highway 54 from the county road.

The project is scheduled to begin in May 2014 and should be completed prior to the 2014-15 school year.

MoDOT is holding an open house briefing Tuesday from 4 to 6 p.m. at North Callaway High School.
